Our commitment to reliability stretches across the state, to communities of all sizes. In Arenac County, we're focused on improving reliability to help with residential and industrial growth in the region. Our neighbors in Au Gres are getting a new substation, boosting reliability and safety across the region. While an undergrounding project in Standish aims to improve reliability for neighbors on Palmer Road. Across the county, we're bringing new, stronger poles to the region with new lines and line sensors that can better identify when there are interruptions to the grid. These improvements to the area are just a handful of the ways you can count on us to provide safe, reliable energy to power your community.

Meet Roberto Rincon, a dedicated lineworker out of Adrian who has spent 40 years helping to restore power to businesses and families around Michigan. Roberto says, “I am proud to be a lineworker and help people in need. I can’t recommend the job enough. You definitely will have a lifetime of memories.” His passion for the job is so strong that he hopes to keep it in the family. “I can’t twist my grandson’s arm high enough to get him to be a lineworker,” he says with a laugh. “Maybe one day. It worked out for me.” Roberto’s commitment and pride in his work are truly inspiring. Thank you Roberto for your 40 years of service and dedication!

There are several ways you count on us to power your day. This year, we’re giving you a few more in the form of tree trimming along 7,000 miles of power lines this year. To put that in perspective, it would take you approximately 28 trips from Jackson to Mackinaw City to hit 7,000 miles. It’s all to deliver on our goal of reducing the number of power outages and restoring power to all customers in 24 hours or less, no matter the situation.

Larry Hower, who is retiring this year, has seen it all after 40 years of service. From poles snapped like twigs by tornado winds to live downed wires wriggling with electricity, Larry and his co-workers have never come against a challenge they couldn’t handle. Every day when Hower showed up for work, he knew he would get the job done because that’s what his community needed from him. Lineworkers like Hower and countless others are the backbone of our grid’s resilience and strength, and we couldn’t do it without them.

In the 1970s, Sylvester Thompson was looking for work after serving in the military. Not knowing what to do, he put in an application with Consumers Energy. A few days later Thompson was called back, hired as a meter reader, and the rest is history. 47 years later, and Sylvester is still happily at work providing services to his friends, family, and fellow Michigan neighbors. At Consumers Energy, we consider our jobs a calling for the greater good. To be in service of the communities we serve is why we do what we do.

We have aggressive clean energy goals. And you can count on us to meet them. Today, we broke ground on a 250 megawatt solar facility in Muskegon County capable of powering 40,000 homes once complete. The project will use 1,900 acres of unused land within the Muskegon County Resource Recovery Center’s footprint. This presents an opportunity for a unique collaboration between the two organizations to continue providing clean water — and now, clean, renewable energy — for the local community.
