About the Ninja Creami Ice Cream Maker

The Ninja Creami ice cream machine is a kitchen appliance that makes so many different frozen treats from just a couple of ingredients + your favorite toppings as mix-ins.

You don’t need a mixing bowl or anything, just this appliance and your ingredients. Your whole family will love making homemade ice cream thanks to the Ninja Creami!

Why You’ll Love This Ninja Creami Protein Ice Cream

Let’s face it, traditional ice cream just isn’t cutting it anymore. Those of us who have dietary restrictions/intolerances still want a yummy dessert that’s a healthier alternative to regular ice cream. Enter the Ninja Creami machine! This machine makes it so that you can have creamy ice cream AND give your body the protein it needs. Extra protein? Sign me up!

And the best part? You can eat the entire pint of protein ice cream without feeling yucky afterward! This recipe is gluten free, dairy free, and MACRO friendly.

This ninja creami protein ice cream recipe lets me include whole ingredients that I love into a dessert that I feel good eating. I know there are a lot of Ninja Creami protein recipes out there with sugar free Jello pudding mix. I wanted to see if I could make something just as delicious without using artificial ingredients, and this recipe turned out to be a total winner! For extra mouthwatering deliciousness, try mixing in my Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Almond Butter Oatmeal Cookies or crumbling Mary’s Famous Gluten Free Peanut Butter Cookies on top of your ice cream.

Ingredient Notes

  • Chocolate protein powder: You can also use vanilla protein powder if you prefer. I like Flavcity Brownie Batter protein powder or Be Well By Kelly chocolate! (Use code MARY for a discount!)
  • 2% cottage cheese: I use the Good Culture brand but you can use whatever kind you like and have on hand. A lot of Ninja Creami recipes use a banana or Jello pudding mix to get the creamy consistency. I decided to try out cottage cheese, and it works beautifully! It also adds a cheesecake flair to this recipe.
  • Fairlife chocolate milk: Or any chocolate milk of choice. Fairlife has more protein than other brands.
  • Gluten-free chocolate sandwich cookies: Crushed up before adding (optional). The Goodie Girl Thin Mints are also amazing!

Recipe Variations and Tips

  • Feel free to add M&M’s, chocolate chips, peanut butter, or any other gluten-free or regular mix ins of choice.
  • If you want to sweeten this homemade ice cream up even more, add honey or maple syrup to the mixture.
  • Many protein ice cream recipes out there call for sugar-free jello mix. I chose not to include that in this recipe. If you want, you can use 10 grams of collagen powder, which has a similar powdered texture but without any added sugars, whether real or artificial. This won’t affect the macros of the recipe by much!
  • To make this Ninja Creami ice cream dairy free, use Dairy Free Greek Yogurt and almond milk instead of cottage cheese and Fairlife chocolate milk.
  • For more chocolate flavor, add in 1-2 tsp cacao powder before blending.
  • You can also use coconut milk, almond milk, or your favorite dairy-free milk as your ice cream base, but just know it may not turn out quite as creamy.

Serving Tips

Serve protein ice cream immediately for the tastiest results. Top this ice cream with any of your favorite gluten-free candies, cookies, or sauces.

You may need to use the “re-spin” option on your Ninja Creami a couple of times to get the texture you desire.

Protein Ice Cream Storage Tips

This delicious ice cream is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store any leftovers in the freezer, covered, for up to 4 days.

When you’re ready to eat it, take it out of the freezer and place it in your Ninja Creami machine. Add 1 tablespoon of Fairlife chocolate milk (or liquid of choice) and press the “re-spin” button to achieve that creamy texture.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use another liquid for my homemade ice cream base?

Yes! You can use any liquid you desire as the base for your ice cream. I love using Fairlife chocolate milk but you can also use whole-fat milk, almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk. Just keep in mind that if you use a different kind of milk the texture will be a bit different.

What kind of mix-ins can I use?

What I love about this machine is that you can choose any mix-ins you’re craving. You can add nuts, chocolate chips, M&M’s, Oreos, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter…the list goes on and on. Just make sure to add your mix-ins after the initial spinning process so that you don’t alter the texture.

What can I use instead of cottage cheese?

Plain Greek Yogurt (regular or dairy free) also works if you’re not a fan of cottage cheese.

How many grams of protein are in this Creami Protein Ice Cream?

There are 52 grams of protein in the entire container. It makes 2 servings, so each serving has 26g of protein. This is assuming you use Good Culture 2% cottage cheese, Fairlife chocolate milk, and a protein powder with 25g per scoop.

  2. LOVE this idea… FYI, Fairlife has Ace K and Sucralose as artificial sweeteners! Such a bummer but like you said, we can use another chocolate milk instead. Just wanted to share in case you were not aware.

    1. Thanks! I am aware 🙂 I also like to use Organic Valley chocolate milk which has better ingredients if you’re looking for another option!

  3. What are your suggestions if you’re using a blender like a vitamix that doesn’t have that ninja option at the end to hit “ice cream”?
