About This Protein Ninja Creami Ice Cream
Probably the most impressive thing about the Ninja Creami machine is that you can turn a protein shake into a legit frozen pint of ice cream. Honestly, it blows my mind every time.
Out of all the Ninja Creami recipes that I’ve tried so far, this one is the coolest. If you’re trying to eat more protein but you’re not a huge lover of protein shakes, this is a game changer!
As a Registered Dietitian I’m a firm believer that you don’t need to “health-ify” every single thing that you eat, but I do like to experiment with healthy swaps too!
If you’re craving the real deal ice cream, this might not be it for you. But, if you just want another option for a sweet treat that also ups your protein intake, this is a great low sugar option that will keep you full and satisfied with extra protein packed in. One entire pint has an impressive 42 grams of protein!
The best part about this recipe is that it’s super versatile and customizable. You can use your favorite protein shake, add different mix-ins and even change up the instant pudding mix flavor based on your taste preferences.
Let’s get into exactly how to throw this one together with just a couple of ingredients!
Ingredients
- Pre-made protein shake: I’m pretty picky when it comes to protein shakes, and when it comes to the pre-mixed kind, none of them taste as good as the Core Power Protein Shakes. There are different kinds like those with 42g of protein per shake, or others with 26g of protein per shake. Both are perfect for this recipe!
- Instant pudding mix: I’ve found that this recipe absolutely needs a tablespoon of instant pudding mix. It will still work with the protein shake alone, but it’s not nearly as good. You can use regular or sugar-free instant pudding mix. It gives the ice cream more flavor and creamier texture.
How to Make Protein Ice Cream in the Ninja Creami
- Add your protein shake and 1 tablespoon of instant pudding mix to the Ninja Creami pint container. Mix well with a whisk or immersion blender and freeze for 24 hours.
- Put your frozen pint container into the Ninja Creami ice cream maker and press the lite ice cream button.
- Use the re-spin setting x2 until smooth and creamy. If the ice cream is still crumblier than you want it before the final spin, add a tiny splash of milk before re-spinning.
- If you’re adding mix-ins, create a small hole in the center and then add in any mix-ins that you want before pressing the mix-in button.
- Enjoy!
More Pre-Made Protein Shake Options:
If you’re not a fan of the Core Protein shakes or you can’t find them, here are some other options:
- Premier Protein Shakes: 30g of protein per bottle, lots of flavor options.
- Quest Protein Shakes: 30g of protein per bottle, several different flavor options.
- Ripple Protein Shakes: 20g of protein per bottle, plant-based pea protein.
- Orgain Plant Protein Shake: 16g of protein per bottle, plant-based protein.
Variations & Recipe Tips
- Use a chocolate protein shake or any other flavor protein shake for the base recipe that you enjoy.
- Add a tsp of vanilla extract to deepen the flavor.
- Make your own protein shake using your favorite protein powder. Just mix regular milk with a scoop of protein powder before adding to the Ninja Creami container.
- Mix-in crushed cookies, chocolate chips, fresh fruit or peanut butter.
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of cocoa powder for a dark chocolate ice cream.
- Add 2 tablespoons of heavy cream to add a big more creaminess to the recipe.
- Grab extra pints and prep several ahead of time!

Thanks for this recipe! 3 re-spins plus a couple of splashes of fat free half and half resulted in very creamy protein ice cream. My previous attempt was crumbly until I found this.Reply

If we want to use protein powder instead of a premade protein shake, what would the measurements be? Thanks.

I would use the same amount of protein shake- 14 oz. :). If you’re mixing up your own protein shake I recommend mixing with milk (or a milk alternative) for best creaminess.
