No. 1 seeds Jannik Sinner (men's) and Iga Swiatek (women's) are into the quarterfinals

Jannik Sinner has seen No. 2 Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz fall in stunning fashion in the last few days. No matter. The world No. 1 just keeps on going. Sinner overcame some early shaky tennis and a raucous crowd to defeat No. 14 Tommy Paul 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-1. Sinner became the only man to reach the quarterfinals of all four slams this season, and his 20 slam wins this season are most by any man or woman.

Sinner trailed 4-1 in the first set before finding his footing, but Paul played inspired tennis throughout both of the first two sets, matching the Italian star step for step. After two narrow losses, though, Paul had no answer in the third set. Sinner produced 10 aces to Paul's one and had 10 fewer unforced errors (33 to 43).

"I found [my rhythm] a little bit in the end of the match, but I can be very proud today," Sinner said in his post-match interview. "It was a tough opponent, so I'm very happy to be in the next round."

He'll get another tough opponent in the quarterfinals: Daniil Medvedev. The 2021 US Open champ cruised past Nuno Borges 6-0, 6-1, 6-3 and has dropped just one set in this year's tournament.

Also moving into the men's quarterfinals Monday were No. 10 Alex de Minaur and No. 25 Jack Draper.

On the women's singles side, No. 6 Jessica Pegula gets a showdown with No. 1 Iga Swiatek after both won their Round 4 matches in straight sets. Pegula, who is from Buffalo, New York, will certainly have the home-crowd advantage Wednesday as she seeks her first slam victory over Swiatek in her third try.

No. 21 Beatriz Haddad Maia and unranked Karolina Muchova also advanced and will face one another in the quarterfinal.
