Tommy Paul could not have asked for a better start against Jannik Sinner.
The No. 14 seed had the world No. 1 on the ropes early, leading by two service breaks in the first set.
Despite trailing 1-4 in the first set, Sinner found his best game, somehow escaping the first set in a thrilling tiebreaker.
In the second set, both players elevated their game, holding serve at a much higher pace, leading to another tiebreaker.
But once again, Sinner's game was just above Paul's.
The top seed continues to prove he's the player to beat, and on Wednesday, he will face Daniil Medvedev for the second consecutive Grand Slam, hoping to avenge his Wimbledon quarterfinal loss.

Daniil Medvedev is back in the U.S. Open quarterfinals.
The hard-court specialist struggled in the two tuneup events prior to the year's final major, losing in the first round at both the Cincinnati Open and the National Bank Open.
However, he has been quite consistent since arriving in New York.
In the fourth round, Medvedev needed just one hour and 48 minutes to advance, while dropping just four total games.
The No. 5 seed won 78% of points on his first serve while committing just 20 unforced errors.
Despite his success, the former U.S. Open champion's hardest test is about to come in the quarterfinal, where he'll face either Jannik Sinner or Tommy Paul.
Jack Draper Continues to Dominate

There has been a changing of the guard in British men's tennis.
Just a month after three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray retired, 22-year-old Jack Draper defeated Tomas Machac in straight sets to reach his first ever major quarterfinal.
The top-seeded Brit, who has used Murray as a hitting partner and advisor in the past, has been exceptional at this year's U.S. Open.
In fact, through four matches, the No. 24 seed has yet to drop a set while winning 47 of 48 service games.
Draper's current form, along with the bracket's vulnerabilities, provides a viable path for his run to continue.
Iga Swiatek's Serving Continues to Stand Out

Iga Swiatek cruised to yet another dominant straight-set win.
In her fourth round victory, she won 29 of 33 points on her first serve.
Swiatek continues to prove that her first-round struggles were an anomaly. In fact, she has not faced a break-point opportunity in her three last matches, winning all 25 straight service games.
Swiatek's greatest strength is not even her serve but rather her athleticism and consistency, which makes her that much more difficult for an opponent to overcome.
On Wednesday, for the second time in three years, the top seed will face Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal.

Jessica Pegula faced a difficult task against Diana Shanider.
For the second time in the last month, Pegula was able to overcome the 20-year-old, again in straight sets.
The 30-year-old American was dominant from the first serve, winning 80% of points, while taking advantage of Shnaider's second serve, where she won 16 of 26 points.
Since the Olympic Games, Pegula has won 13 of 14 matches.
Furthermore, in this year's U.S. Open, she has yet to drop a set.
Pegula has historically struggled in the majors quarterfinal round (0–6), but given her current form, nothing is out of the question.
