The Flash may have wrapped up its 4th season a couple weeks ago, but Danielle Panabaker isn’t going on a break just yet. The Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost actress is staying in the Vancouver area for her role on another snowy production, Christmas Joy, one of the holiday movies for Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas series, which will premiere later this year.
RELATED: Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas 2017 Movies Filmed in BC
The story of Christmas Joy is based on the book of the same name written by USA Today Bestselling Author Nancy Naigle. Danielle will play the titular character, Joy Holbrook. She’s a corporate market researcher, gunning for a promotion within her firm. Just as her company’s CEO is taking notice, Joy finds out her Aunt Ruby has broken her ankle and will be undergoing surgery. Despite the less than opportune timing, Joy makes her way back home to Crystal Falls, NC to be with her Aunt.
Stars seem to be aligned as Joy sees her former crush, Ben Andrews, while at the hospital. At first, Joy is focused solely on helping her Aunt heal; even taking over her position as chair of the local Cookie Crawl competition. Eventually, she begins to let Ben in and remembers there’s no place like home for the holidays. The pair work together on the Cookie Crawl to make the event a success.
Danielle will be joined by Matt Long (Timeless) who will play Ben. No word yet on who is playing Aunt Ruby, or Ben’s mother/Ruby’s best friend Shirley.
Christmas Joy Filming Locations
Christmas Joy is set in Crystal Falls, NC, but it’s filming in the Vancouver area. Some of the locations the movie has been spotted filming already include downtown Vancouver’s Sinclair Centre, 3000 Block South Granville Street and downtown Langley. Chesapeake Shores Season 3 (TV Series)
The success of the show is undeniable; Chesapeake Shores is one of the most-watched original series in Hallmark Channel’s history; in fact, it is THE most-watched original series for the network among women aged 25 to 54.
Season 2’s success anchored the Hallmark Channel as the #1 rated network during the 9pm Sunday timeslot, so it was no surprise when Chesapeake Shores season 3 was announced during the January TCA event. Like season 2, the third season will consist of another 10 episodes that will continue the story of Trace (Jesse Metcalfe), Abby (Meghan Ory) and the rest of the O’Brien family.
The spirit of the picturesque Atlantic coast town is portrayed perfectly by Vancouver Island. Some of the locations where the show was spotted filming last season include Parksville Community Park, Nanoose Bay, various locations in downtown Nanaimo, Coastal Community Insurance Services and various other locations around Qualicum Beach.
Executive producer Michael Berns teased a photo of the Riley Construction truck while preparing for Chesapeake Shores season 3 earlier this month:

The original animated Kim Possible series ran from 2007 to 2007 and was centred around the titular character. Although she may not possess any ‘super powers’, she’s certainly a hero in her own right. She’s an ordinary teenage girl who helps save the planet from evil-doers alongside her trusty friends and sidekicks Ron Stoppable, Wade and Rufus the mole-rat.
According to Variety.com, original series creators Mark McCorkle and Robert Schooley, co-wrote the script for the live-action movie alongside Josh Cagan and they will serve as executive producers. Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky are co-directing and producing.
Disney noted via Twitter that the casting process for the Kim Possible live-action movie had just gotten underway back on February 7th, but there hasn’t been any announcements so far.

Unspeakable (TV Miniseries)
Prison Break star Sarah Wayne Callies can’t get enough of filming in Vancouver. She just wrapped up season 3 of Colony in February, but her latest project, an 8-part miniseries called Unspeakable starts filming this week. The series is being created for CBC in Canada and SundanceTV in the US. Sarah will not only star in the series, she’s also set to direct at least one of the episodes according to CBC.
Unspeakable is centred around the tainted blood crisis here in Canada, which caused a tremendous amount of people to be infected with HIV and Hepatitis C dring the 1980s. Among those who were affected by the outbreak was Toronto-born filmmaker Robert C. Cooper, who is the creator and showrunner for the Unspeakable miniseries. Robert is known for producing Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, SGU Stargate Universe, but most recently he was the showrunner for the Vancouver-filmed series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.
In addition to his own personal experience going through this disaster, Robert leveraged material from the books Bad Blood by Vic Parsons and Andre Picard’s The Gift while penning the script for Unspeakable. A quote from Robert included in the press release from CBC:
“First and foremost, the series is about the emotional impact this terrible tragedy had. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have such incredibly talented people committed to bringing our lead characters to life.”
Sarah shared a first look at her in character for the role on Unspeakable via Instagram:

The Unspeakable miniseries will continue filming in Vancouver and British Columbia until June 29th.
Truly, Madly, Sweetly (TV Movie)
Hallmark’s Truly, Madly, Sweetly was written by Gourmet Detective/Cedar Cove star Dylan Neal. The story is centred Emily, the owner of a cupcake food truck who has spent her whole life dreaming of having her own bakery.
The stars align and she meets Ryan, who has similarly always wanted to own his own business. Although the pair is from two completely different worlds, they form an unlikely partnership, and neither one of them could have ever imagined it would turn out the way it did.
Thanks to pictures shared by @TheHeidiReport, it looks like Emily’s cupcake food truck is called “Frisco Sweet Treats”.

Marrying Mr. Darcy (TV Movie)
Marrying Mr. Darcy is the follow-up to Unleashing Mr. Darcy, which filmed in the Vancouver area throughout November of 2015 before premiering on the Hallmark Channel on January 23rd, 2016. Unleashing Mr. Darcy was based on a popular book by romance novelist Teri Wilson.
The modern-day pride and prejudice story was centred around Elizabeth and Donovan Darcy. The pair met after Elizabeth entered her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel into a New York dog show which was being judged by Donovan. Although there was some tension at first, the two eventually fall for each other.
Donovan and Elizabeth are played by Ryan Paevey (General Hospital) and Montreal-born actress Cindy Busby (Cedar Cove, Date My Dad). Tammy Gillis, Lini Evans and Frances Fisher will all be returning to reprise their roles as Jenna Scott, Linda Scott and Violet Darcy as well.
Cindy shared a picture of her and Ryan back together on Twitter yesterday:

The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open was written by award-winning filmmakers Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers and Kathleen Hepburn. The duo will also serve as co-directors for the film, marking the directorial debut for Tailfeathers.
Described as “intricately complex, while at the same time very simple”, the story of The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open is centred around two Indigenous women who have to navigate the aftermath of domestic abuse. It’s inspired by a transformative moment in writer/director Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers’ real life.
Tailfeathers, who took home the Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series in 2017, will also star in the film, alongside the debut role for newcomer Violet Nelson.
Her co-writer/co-director Kathleen Hepburn is no stranger to the Canadian Screen Awards either. Her first feature film, Never Steady, Never Still, was recently nominated for 8 Canadian Screen Awards including Best Film and Best Director. That movie was also shot in British Columbia with Cinematographer Norm Li, who is the Director of Photography for The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open.
Alongside the production of The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open, TELUS STORYHIVE will be providing support to launch an Indigenous Youth Mentorship program. Eleven Indigenous youth, ages 16–28, will work with key creatives through all departments to gain creative and practical filmmaking experience. Jade Baxter from the Nlaka’pamux Nation, whose short films that have played at festivals such as imagineNATIVE and RIDM, will be one of the youth mentees, working closely with both co-directors Tailfeathers and Hepburn to experience firsthand what it’s like to direct a feature film.
The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open is a Canada-Norway co-production produced by Tyler Hagan of Experimental Forest Films, Lori Lozinski of Violator Films, and Alan R. Milligan of Tannhauser Gate and Film Farms. The feature is funded by Telefilm’s new Indigenous Screen Office, CBC’s Breaking Barriers Film Fund, and the Norwegian Film Institute.
The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open will continue filming in Vancouver and area until April 9th.

Travelers Season 3 (TV Series)
Travelers season 3 was officially announced on March 18th and production began in Delta yesterday. Although the first 2 seasons were a joint venture between Showcase in Canada and Netflix globally, Travelers season 3 will be released exclusively by Netflix.
Although no premiere date was mentioned in the press release, the production dates lineup nearly identically with the first two seasons, suggesting it may follow the same mid-late fall premiere schedule. Series lead Eric McCormack mentioned that it would be coming “late this year” in a tweet he shared of Nesta Cooper and MacKenzie Porter during their first day back on set.
First day back with my favorite #Travelers @NestaCooper & @MacKenziePMusic! Season 3 coming this year (well, late this year) @netflix pic.twitter.com/dALovygtr8
— Eric McCormack (@EricMcCormack) March 26, 2018
Eric McCormack is set to direct the first episode of season 3, picking up where he left off with the season 2 finale, which he also directed. Although Travelers season 3 marks the departure from Showcase, Eric proudly underscored the show’s “all-Canadian” pedigree in the press release:
”I am so proud of this show, particularly that it’s all-Canadian. From our devoted Vancouver crew, to an uber-talented young cast who hail from Alberta, BC, Manitoba and Ontario, to my producing partners and our Toronto roots, Travelers is a series as Canadian in its creation, as it is global in scope.”
Travelers season 3 will continue filming in Vancouver and area until July 5th.
Valley of the Boom – Season 1 (TV Series)
Valley of the Boom is a new 6-episode series for National Geographic set in California’s Silicon Valley tech hub in the 1990s. According to TVLine.com, the series is focused on the “tech boom” and will explore the creators, influencers, and brands that developed out of the area during that time.
Steve Zahn, who just wrapped up his new series The Crossing in the Vancouver area recently, has been cast as one of the leads on Valley of the Boom. He’ll be joined by New Girl star Lamorne Morris, Bradley Whitford (West Wing), John Karna (Scream), Oliver Cooper (Red Oaks) and Dakota Shapiro (The Affair).
Valley of the Bloom season 1 will continue filming in Vancouver and area until May 28th and is expected to premiere in 2019 on the National Geographic channel.

Daughter of the Wolf was written by Nick Agiashvili and is set partly in the Yukon Territory, close to the Alaskan border. It centres around a former military specialist named Clair McKenna. Returning from duty is supposed to be a happy time, but when Clair arrives home, she’s met with quite the opposite. Her father has recently passed away, and her beloved son, Charlie has officially entered his rebellious teenage years.
To make matters worse, the inheritance from her father causes Charlie to be kidnapped and held for ransom. This sends Clair on an enraged mission to find her son, taking her own hostage along the way.
Although it’s set in the Yukon, production kicked off in West Kelowna on Sunday, at Glen Canyon Regional Park according to Global News. This week they’ll be spending time at Telemark Nordic Club.
Gina was also in BC in early 2016 for a role in the post-apocalyptic thriller Scorched Earth which was released in February. Here’s the trailer for Scorched Earth in case you haven’t seen it yet:

Take Two – Season 1 (TV Series)
After receiving a straight to series order from ABC last fall, new crime procedural Take Two season 1 starts filming in Vancouver and area today. Take Two hails from Castle creator Andrew W. Marlowe and stars Rachel Bilson (Hart of Dixie, The O.C.) and Eddie Cibrian (CSI: Miami, Third Watch, Baby Daddy) as Ella and Eddie respectively.
In an interesting spin on the crime genre, Take Two follows the unusual partnership between the pair. Eddie is a private investigator who prefers to work on his own, and Ella’s only experience comes from the couple-hundred episodes of a hit cop TV show she starred in. Despite Eddie’s initial resistance, he allows Ella to shadow him in order to help her research for a new role to restart her career. To his surprise, Ella actually ends up being a big asset in a high-profile case. The attention the duo get from the media ends up sending a wave of new clients their way.
Thank you to @lemon_buzz for the original info that Take Two would be filming in Vancouver!
Take Two season 1 will continue filming in Vancouver and British Columbia until July 23rd.

Up-and-coming actress Mckenna Grace (Designated Survivor, Fuller House) will portray the daughter, Emma. In the 1956 version, that role was played by Patty McCormack who will actually be returning for the remake. This time around she’ll be playing Emma’s psychiatrist.

Like the first 2 movies in the series, Descendants 3 will be filmed in Vancouver area. Like the last movie, which had a working title of “The Lair” while in production, Descendants 3 will be going by “The Big Sleep”. Some of the locations used by the franchise in the past include the University of British Columbia and Riverview Hospital on the mainland, the BC Parliament Buildings in Victoria, and arguably the most important location of the movies was Hatley Castle at Royal Road University in Colwood. Hatley Castle will be returning to the big screen this may when it appears during Deadpool 2 as Professor Xavier’s mansion/school.
Thank you, as always, to @lemon_buzz who broke the news that Descendants 3 was in the works and that it would be returning to the Vancouver area to film. This news was followed up by a cryptic post by Disney on the official Descendants Twitter account which teased that “BIG news [is] coming this Friday”.

The Descendants Twitter account then followed that up on Wednesday with this video clip of Dove Cameron which ended with “you didn’t think this was the end of the story, did you?”

The teaser doesn’t reveal much, except that we’ll be seeing more of Dove Cameron as Mal and that it will invole her dad.
Sofia Carson will be reprising her role as Evie – here’s a clip of her announcing her return via Instagram:

Below we’ll highlight some of the Deadpool 2 filming locations and share the trailer that was released earlier this week.
After filming the original in the Vancouver area back in 2015, Marvel’s over-the-top antihero franchise starring Ryan Reynolds returned to the area for the Deadpool 2 from June 26th to October 13th, 2017 and it premieres on May 18th, 2018. The strange and cryptic official synopsis shared by Fox reads as follows: “After surviving a near-fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.”
In addition to the other returning cast, Deadpool 2 introduces the Nathan Summers/Cable character from the comics, portrayed by Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men). The latest trailer below focuses heavily on Cable, but doesn’t miss out on the opportunity to include some bizarre content from the merc with a mouth himself.
